In which I channel the Vintage Vixen

It's pretty rare that I find actual *vintage* in the local thrift stores, as opposed to the usual White Stag Walmart crap from five years ago, so when I found this seventies-era maxi dress, even though I know I'll probably never wear it, I gladly paid three bucks for it.

Because does this scream "Vintage Vixen", or does it not? And even though her personal style is not my personal style, she's reminded me that it's okay to HAVE a personal style, so this little number will make me smile every time I see it hanging in my closet.

Look at the fabulous detailing! (and not at the boobs. *cough* DO NOT STARE AT MY BOOBS IT'S CREEPY.)

And who knows? Maybe on one of my "oh-screw-the-world" days, I'll actually wear it.

Although I'll have to be careful to stay away from open flames, because that thing is pure synthetic (so ... slippery!), and I don't want to sacrifice my life for fashion. I'm not THAT dedicated.

Screw wearing purple when I get old. I'm wearing hippie.

Oooo! It's boootiful! Hem it at the knee and wear it with calf-high boots!

Darling, it's beautiful! Don't cut an inch off that hem! You might have a soiree to attend.

Although Silk's idea is far more practical.

Gorgeous. Even if you just wear it around the house, it will make you feel beautiful every time you do and that's well worth $3.

Silk's idea is a good one. Getting a tailor to do the alteration would probably cost between $5 and $10.

It really is too pretty. I would have killed to have it back in the day when we were wearing those. P.S. Would it kill you to eat something?...........Ginny

Dudes, check this out - there was a sewn-in label saying "Peck & Peck, Fifth Avenue, New York":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peck_%26_Peck

Ha - "Flourished in the pre-hippie era" - Well, my dress says they TRIED to go hippie...

And I'm really glad you all like it. I think I'll probably get it shortened, as per ~~Silk's suggestion, even though I agree with Becs and hate to do it. This thing deserves to be worn!
bridgett, I'm glad to know it wouldn't cost that much - sadly, I never learned to sew, even though my grandma was a seamstress, so I'd have to hire someone.

And Ginny, trust me, I eat lots. The dress is slimming. :)

There was a Peck & Peck in Grosse Pointe, the Ford women shopped there.

Only problem with keeping it long is that fabric is too hot to wear in the summer when it would look good as a casual summer maxi dress. Boots in the fall will be better.

Yeah, fmc, I think it's best as a cool-weather dress, what with the long sleeves. Throw a blazer over it and it'll be almost respectable!

... my hippie dress ...

I know I'm late to the take-it-to-a-tailor party, but I agree. My first thought was that it would make a cute tunic, but that's just my style :) This is so great. I've been finding some decent stuff at Goodwill lately (lots of Wal-Mart stuff too).

Now I've just gotta find a tailor ...
