Oh, great, now I'm getting slammed on facebook ...

... and on the Fourth of July, no less!

Okay, so an acquaintance of mine posts little sayings her vitamin store sends her on facebook all the time. And today's was, "The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has it's limits."

And at FIRST I was all, it's a joke, right? It's gotta be a joke, writing about genius and putting that apostrophe in the "its".

But it just sat there, and sat there, and I couldn't resist myself, so I commented, "I don't think genius would've put that apostrophe in the "its", though ... "

and some chick who I don't know from Adam commented, "Wow, Rocky ... bitter person much?"

*---*

Whaaaaaaat? This is why I've gotta stay the f*ck off facebook.

Now scroll down, for lots of random stuff. Yippee!

It's what I would've said. Good for you.

Thanks, queen! I feel I should add, she posted it so it showed up on MY wall. It's not like I went over to her place and made the comment.

I'm just gonna stay away from facebook, that's all. It just gets me in trouble.

Ditto the Queen. This is why I pretty much restrict myself to "likes" only with few comments. Except to my cousin who uses her phone for everything except actually talking on it...

Its too bad the person can't accept your remark's as constructive. Ginny (tee hee!)

The apostrophe makes the point about stupidity, and the response to your comment reinforces it.

The only thing worse than ignorance is a willful refusal to do anything about it.

Frankly, I'm worried that the whole "it's" thing is going to become acceptable because of common usage (MISusage). (There it was on the front page of the (online) Washington Post a few days ago...until someone corrected it.) Many incorrect expressions/phrases have followed that path to acceptance. Sigh.

LOVED your response! You go, girl! Someone has to help the punctuation challenged.

I see so many mistakes (misteaks?) on CNN.com. It makes me cringe. At Barnes & Noble today, saw a title that went something like "Two Women Out to Change the World By Eradicating Typos." And bad grammar, of course.

I was just kind of amazed that I got slammed as being "bitter" for pointing out a typo on a facebook thing that some company sent out as advertising, a "thought-of-the-day" kind of thing. It was just... strange.

Some people get their jollies calling other people names online, where they feel safe. They're usually people who have little power in their offline lives.

If anyone's bitter....

~~Silk, yeah, it just came out of left field. I'm still staying off facebook, though. Jeez.

I have a friend that has a blog dedicated to apostrophes and other grammatical errors. I like to send her messages with extra apostrophes just for fun. :-)

I would have said something too.
