Holy Cow, These Guys Move Fast

I talked to a Realtor at noon today. I have already been pre-qualified for a mortgage and have been e-mailed several houses to look at, and I will probably be looking at houses this weekend. I realize that I may still be looking at houses a year from now, but it's thrilling (and terrifically scary) to know that I'm actually getting started.

Did you get my email, or did you find someone on your own?

They are Deeee-lighted to have any interest in home-buying at the moment. It's a buyer's market due to the economy and if you have reasonable credit, you'll have good negotiating power. So negotiate! Realtors want to sell houses and get commissions, so maybe taking their advice about the amount of the offer isn't the smartest thing in the world. (Wish I had figured that out.)

You maybe should look on TinyCatPants archive to see the compendium of advice that we gave Betsy when she was looking for houses.

Hooray! I love realtor.com, by the way. It didn't exactly help us buy our house directly, but it's got a lot of information and is therefore interesting to browse. Happy house hunting!

P.S. If you want to move to Owego in June, I have just the house for you (mine). You + a couple exchange students or a small family...

Mortgage rates are down to 5%...this is getting better and better for you.

Listie, I did get your e-mail, but not until I had already picked another Realtor. This guy is a former landlord of mine, I've known him for years, and he's got a good reputation, so hopefully he'll work out okay, but if he doesn't, I'll definitely keep your person in mind.

And yeah, Bridgett, I was kind of amazed at these people falling all over me and my limited budget, but then again, I might be the only person in town looking for a house right now! And thanks for the advice about negotiating.

And kitkat, teh interwebs sure makes house hunting fun! (and exhausting!)
