I was born in 1962; you do the math. (See also: I'm too lazy to remember to update this thing regularly.) I bought my first house in the summer of 2009; I share it with four cats and with the memories of The Runt and Little Girl, who both passed away in 2011. Rocky, the cat for whom this blog was named, passed away in 2008; I miss them all. I wish I lived somewhere where the winters weren't eight months long; other than that, life is good.
No, you're not taking it too seriously. The guys at Home Depot know their stuff. (One told me how to refinish my hardwood floors. One room down, two to go.)
It's important to know as much of this stuff as you can. Paying for someone else to do it is financially ruinous.
I like to keep my house slightly under-weatherproofed because I think it improves the air quality. There are a few leaks around some of the windows, which saves me the trouble of having a carbon monoxide detector. As you might imagine, this is not the recommended method.

You go, girl.
You know how to refinish hardwood floors? Come on over! :)
Yeah, I'm kind of looking forward to learning how to do the "guy stuff".
I have also refinished all the hardwood floors in our house. It's hard and dirty work, but it looks fabulous when you finish it.
HD seminars are very helpful and we go to a couple a year.
Floor-refinishing party at my place! :)

I'm a big advocate of fresh air, unless the air is, like, ten below, and then ..... not so much.
