The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire,

aka "The Moment of Truth", Fox's new reality show. I am ashamed to admit that I watched some of this last night. The basic premise is that they hook you up to a lie detector, ask you all kinds of extremely personal questions about your past, how you feel about your spouse, etc., and if you tell the truth (even if the truth is that you cheated on your wife, who is sitting right there in front of you), you win some money. Of course, all kinds of dirty little secrets come popping out along the way. They should have named it "Sell Your Soul".

I don't know which I feel worse about: That people would actually voluntarily go on this show, humiliate themselves, and possibly destroy their relationships, all for a little bit of money; or that I actually sat down and watched some of it.

Or, on the third hand, that you could potentially wreck your marriage by admitting for money on national TV that you didn't know if you'd still be with your wife for the rest of your life and therefore held off having kids AND then losing all the money for lying about perving on your female clients.

How much more of a loser could you be? He's on this show (bad judgment), he's so greedy that he's willing to tear up his marriage for some cash, and then he's so dumb that he lies and gets nothing. It's like something in an ancient Greek play.

(No, I didn't watch it. The NYT reviewed it. But I might have if I wasn't so lame about never knowing when anything is on.)

I think I'll pass on that one.

I am, however, addicted to Project Runway.

Bridgett - Yeah, you're right - the guy was a real tool.

Listie - I tried Project Runway, and just wasn't into it. But I know lots of people who love it!

Maybe you have to sew to appreciate how impossible the time limits on those challenges are.

Aha! This has now started in the UK with Jerry Springer. Total humiliation (didn't see it, but read about it in the [trash] paper). I would however just love to see it if I could, like Bridgett, remember when anything was on and what station it was on.

A real piece of disgusting, trash, voyeuristic, appalling rubbish TV which shows exactly how revolting people are to those they supposedly love. My kind of tv programme - designed to make ME feel better! I would rather gnaw off my own arm than do something quite so horrific!
