I was born in 1962; you do the math. (See also: I'm too lazy to remember to update this thing regularly.) I bought my first house in the summer of 2009; I share it with four cats and with the memories of The Runt and Little Girl, who both passed away in 2011. Rocky, the cat for whom this blog was named, passed away in 2008; I miss them all. I wish I lived somewhere where the winters weren't eight months long; other than that, life is good.
~~Silk, do you remember the little turtles they used to sell at Woolworth's? And you could buy the little plastic pool with the island in the middle with the plastic palm tree in it for your turtles? I had a turtle and the pool as a kid. I think that's where my love of turtles came from. I wish you could still buy those little turtles, dammit.
and Ginny, these were all taken using a zoom lens, because turtles will dive into the water as soon as they sense anything anywhere near, making it really hard to get physically close to them. Pics 2 and 3 were taken from so far away, unfortunately, that even the zoom couldn't really compensate. But in my turtle-addled mind, a blurry turtle pic is better than no turtle pic! ha.

I love seeing turtles sunning. There's something about it that says, "All's right with the world." (Well, this corner of it, anyway.)
Do you have a close-up lens for the camera? Or, are you using your phone? Never mind. We'll take the nature shots you have for us!

Oh I LOVE your turtle day! I wish I had a turtle day. Best I get is a random turtle walking on our little side street once every couple of years.
