Ladies. And gents. I have a question.
I'm pretty sure I've got a urinary tract infection (my first one ever ... yaaaaay!)
From what Dr. Google is telling me, the standard treatment is antibiotics.
But ... antibiotics give me c-diff.
Houston, we have a problem.
I've been chugging cranberry juice all day and upped the probiotics and even bought some cranberry extract capsules, which are probably snake oil but hell, any port in a storm.
Anybody got any other suggestions? I'm at a bit of a loss, here.

They know I'm allergic to pennicillin and sulfa, and always give me cipro. I think it's very bladder specific. That and anthrax.
Cranberry will help to resist UTI, but once you've got it, cranberry does NOTHING to cure it. If you have visible blood, you might have something more than a simple UTI, like a kidney stone or kidney infection. See the doctor. And the Queen is right about Cipro (as far as I know...).
[Verification word: factedly.]
Oops. I just Googled Cipro. It's also used to treat bacterial diarrhea and lung infections - so I assume it is not very bladder specific. Your doctor will have to figure out what to do.
I used to get them all the time and if no Cipro, they do a screen-I have had it done in the office to see which med you need to take. Then if necessary the would proscribe the Flagyl for the yeast infection which would always follow. So glad those days are offer. I have also had Keflex proscribed with no issues. That stuff is such a bummer.
Don't know why all the misspelled words above, apologize.
Flagyl is for anaerobic bacteria - Diflucan is for yeast. Culturing the urine is the best next step - it can identify the offending organism and the specific antibiotics that can kill it. Once on the correct antibiotic, you'll need probiotics or Activia and lots of fluids, especially athlete's drinks like Gatorade, to maintain your electrolytes. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for all the info, guys. I've been really, really reluctant to go to the doctor for this, because I know he'll put me on antibiotics, and we all know what happens when I go on antibiotics, but I guess I'm gonna bite the bullet. Hopefully there'll be some narrow-spectrum thing they can put me on that won't have catastrophic consequences on my intestines.
Yuck.
So what happened? Are you okay?
Kris
Update to come ...
silver is antibacterial..
d-Mannose is good to keep the bacteria from colonizing
cornsilk or marshmallow root are good for soothing the bladder walls
Thanks, Tails. How does one go about ingesting silver? Is there a pill or something? And what is d-Mannose?
Sorry for all the questions. I getting desperate, here.
er ... "I'm" getting desperate, here.
