About that broccoli salad ......

...... so far I have identified (raw) broccoli, raisins, red onions, walnuts, celery, some things that look like raisins but are green and ohmygod I don't know WHAT THEY ARE ........ I do not like eating stuff I can't identify.

What is green, and looks like a raisin, but is not a raisin? Hmmmm....

Oh and there's some kind of binder holding it all together - not sure if it's mayo or possibly ranch dressing, but I'm leaning toward mayo right now.

And here is my dilemma. I cannot be sure that some of my new neighbors won't someday find my blog. And I don't want to say anything unkind, especially about someone who is being so nice to me. But this salad ........... why? Why would anyone make this? I guess it just has to go into that category of "dubious recipes from the 50s". Or the 70s. Either one.

And I mean, it's not like I'm one to talk. I have leftover jello crown jewel dessert in my fridge right now.

So dear neighbor, if you ever read this, just remind me about the jello. We're even.

They might be sunflower seeds. The dressing is probably Miracle Whip and balsamic vinegar and sugar...kind of like slaw dressing.

It's a southern thing, so rather than temporal anomoly, you've been hit with a regional delicacy. Some people like the mix of crunchy salty sweet savory. It's a hit at family reunions and church picnics, though I personally don't care for it unless it's got a little bacon mixed in.

But on the up side, you have a nice neighbor. Our crazy neighbor follies continue -- we pulled some weeds and moved around some plants in the front bed and he relandscaped the entire front of his house. The man is nuts.

Good Lord, the salad sounds interesting!

I can't believe you still have that jello thing in your fridge, though! Isn't it green with mould by now, or is it another one you made and didn't tell us?!

Bridgett, it sounds like you could have some fun with your neighbor - try putting out a few gnomes and see what happens.

And FART!!, of COURSE it's a new-made jello dessert! Sorry to scare you! :)

My daughter suggested that we should rent some big piece of excavation equipment for a couple of days and see what happens...maybe we can get him to put in an in-ground swimming pool.

I've seen yellowish raisins before, but green? That's a new one. It's the thought that counts, right? You should give her some of your Jello as thanks sometimes. Then you'll really be even. At least it does sound like she's a real sweetheart and you really lucked out in the neighbor department. I guess all the hassle of house hunting is paying off.
