Oh,.maaaaaan ....

I did not get the job for which I did Interview #3 yesterday.  To make it that far and then not get the position is a little disheartening.

I may, however, be receiving an offer on the other position I interviewed for yesterday.  HOWEVER, that is the one involving 12-hour shifts and repetitive responsibilities (I'd be doing the same thing all day long), and now I'm in a quandary.  (Also complicating things is the fact that I'd be working with someone I currently volunteer with at the rescue.) Do I take the job (provided they offer enough money to make it worth the 12-hour shifts), or do I hold out for something else?

Decisions, decisions ...

Jeez, you're laying this burden on US????????

Twelve-hour shifts seem to be the new normal, and it is the least rational thing ever. (The nursing staff at James' dialysis center....DaVita [ahem]....comes at 4:45 am and doesn't get to leave until 10 pm or even later...the SAME PEOPLE all day. Sure.....we want folks who are just PUNCHY from exhaustion calculating meds and needle placement, etc.) Anyway, you may just run into the twelve hour thing elsewhere as well.

Is the one you were offered the one with the long drive?

Ginny, nope, the long drive one is the one I didn't get.

Twelve-hour shifts just seem ... uncivilized. I mean, sure, it means you get more days off, but how the heck can anyone stay sharp and focused for twelve hours straight?

The twelve-hour shift is now the norm for the hospital nursing staffs, here in Virginia, anyway. I asked about it PLENTY and was told the reason was the importance of continuity. (Trying to think of a new, different word for BS, here.........Will let you know.)

Welp, I just got offered the job - it's a twenty percent pay cut from where I am right now. I have got to respond ASAP ... I need to think about it.

a third interview and they didn't hire you? geeze, they should be required to give you compensation for your time, or something. Pay cut and horrid hours.. ugh, what a tough call
