Freaky Friday - Weather House!

I mentioned that I was in Ithaca the other weekend and bought out Hobby Lobby.  I found some other cool stuff that day, too.

I stopped in one antiques store that I almost never go in because they're so overpriced, and look what I found high up on a shelf:

The faded label on the back said it was a "Weather Wizard".  After doing some googling, turns out they're also called "weather houses".  The little figures rotate in and out of the house depending on what the weather is.  Of course, here in great Upstate New York, we KNOW what the weather is - either raining or snowing - but still, it's a neat little thing.  Plus, it only cost me five bucks, so ... win!   The deer head makes the piece, I think. :)

On the way home, on impulse I swung into the parking lot of a furniture reseller, and look!

CONCRETE Virgin Mary.  I can't decide if I want to paint her pretty or keep the minimalist look.  Hmmm ...

That was a day of epic finds, no doubt about it.

The weather house looks enormous in that photo! It predicts, right?

If you leave the Madonna as is and put it outside, it says "Old Catholic lady lives here." If you paint it like the horses, it says "Crazy old Catholic lady lives here."

Unless you install it upside down.

haha it's just the angle of the photo, ~~Silk, it's really only about 7" high. Psych! And it's made of plastic. Sorry to disillusion anybody. It's supposed to tell the weather, but the witch has been out of the house since I bought it, so I'm not sure if it works. Then again, it hasn't stopped raining since I bought it either, so maybe it works just fine.

and now I really, REALLY want to install the Virgin Mary upside down. Although the neighbors would probably run me out of town on a rail for blasphemy or something. Then again, I didn't even bother to put my flags out for the Fourth because I'm so over the neighbors, so who cares?

RockyCat's blog. Come for the kitten pics, stay for the neighborhood dramaz.

Ah! Idea! Install it lying on its back, fill it with water, and call it a birdbath!

Here in Jersey we call it Virgin on the Half-Shell. Typical to paint the background the brightest blue you can possibly find and The Blessed Mother's robes a bit darker blue. Her gown, of course, is virginal white.

Birdbath? Possible, ~~Silk!

Becs, that sounds pretty! Hmmm ...

If I had my way with the Virgin Mary, so to speak, I'd have her all blinged out. No, of course I wouldn't, only joking!

LL Cool Joe, I like the idea of a blingin' Madonna! Some glitter, some gold leaf ...
