we be scammin'

Call that was on my voicemail the other day, verbatim: "Hello. This call is officially a final notice from IRS - Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to inform you that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our department number, 202-657-4256. I repeat, 202-657-4256. Thank you."

GOD DAMMIT THAT PAYLESS CHICK TURNED ME IN.

Quick! you better call them back and give them your credit card number to pay whatever they want!
The IRS TOTALLY does all their debt collection via VOICE MAIL. And it's totally legit to be informed of a lawsuit against you via A PHONE CALL.

The sad thing is, I'm sure they get people freaked out all the time who call them back and get sucked in.

P.S. I booked my next trip! I'm flying to the Big Island of Hawaii in December for a week! I got my flight and my place to stay booked and have to sort out of a couple of boat tours yet. SO EXCITING!

Wow, it must be scam week. I received an email to pay my one dollar for work done on my non-existant condo. They only wanted all my banking information.

spiff, yep, I'll get right on that. HA. And Hawaii sounds AWESOME!

and fmc, better send that info quick before they rescind the offer!

Sadly, these are EXACTLY the kinds of things that people like my mom (who had Alzheimer's) would fall for. People who prey on the defenseless SUCK.
