I am convinced that for a brief period every fall, there is no prettier place on Earth than the Northeast.

I took this pic on Sunday while driving to a hiking spot:

And here is the creek, not a hundred yards from my house:

Pictures don't really do it justice; the colors are almost psychedelic.

I don't know what these little puff-balls are; anyone have any ideas?:

My favorite walks are those near water.  I almost took the kayak out yesterday, but I figure that once the idea of ending up in the drink (always a possibility when I'm doing the paddling) becomes unattractive, it's time to put up the paddle for the year.

Look!  These trees are hugging each other!  Awwwwwww.

Milkweed in the breeze:

Oh, Autumn, I would love you forever, if only I didn't know what came after.

Fall in the NE is certainly lovely; it's too bad it doesn't last. I seem to remember driving to work in the morning and noting the fall colors and then coming home the same day to find the same trees looking noticeably different. It was like 2 weeks of beautiful fall and then a storm would hit and, just like that, no more leaves and winter was upon us.

Allergies aside, I came to love spring more than fall. But I do miss the fall festivities.

Sorry. Mother Nature's coy attempt at charm and misdirection doesn't fool me. I ain't falling for it. I'm still pissed at her. She won't be forgiven until Spring.

ha, Kate, you live in beautiful CA now, so you're all, like, "Leaves?! Pffffft!" Ha. Can't say as I blame you. :)

And ~~Silk, yeah, now all I can do is hunker down and wait out winter.
