How to kill an entire afternoon
I just managed to get our rescue into another local store for adoption events, and now I feel like a total bad*ss. Kind of makes up for that whole "yelling at a little kid" thing. Sorta.
But! While I was on my lunch break I was perusing the internet, as one does, and I checked out GOMI, one of my favorite sites (see again: am horrible person), and came across this gem of a trainwreck:

Oh! And while I was scanning through the forum posts, I came across a link to this, which creeped me right the f*ck out:

Whew. Now I can sleep again. Although I would TOTALLY see the movie version of that.
Yeah, I was going to mention that bit about the dead girlfriend on Facebook. Snopes debunked that one a few days ago.
The GOMI thing --- I read where you linked, then I started from the top and read about 9 screens worth, and then I got mad. Yeah, ok, this Bev person is either very stupid or simply nuts. But what infuriated me was the piling on of the other posters. It when a group sees someone they don't like, so they circle that person and spit and throw stones, and egg each other on. I have a mental image of village people with torches and pitchforks.
There's no call for that. It's just plain meanness. They keep saying she's nuts, then they keep on prodding her. Do they really think they are going to push her into sanity? Do they really think she will admit her supposed transgressions and reform with much beating of breast? No. They are having too much fun throwing stones and spitting.
What they should do is stop, and just report her theft of images or whatever to the originator.
By the way, it also bugs me when people say things like "And I was the one who said the TV was the babysitter. I must have struck a nerve. Maybe because it's true." YOU DON"T KNOW THAT IT'S TRUE! And what makes you think people won't get pissed at stuff you say that's NOT true? The only way to say anything like that is with a sneer -- and that's why it was said. PISS ME OFF!
Also, they exult in calling her a liar --- and then that one woman says she knows that Bev is using false ids because the ids all have the same IP address. I CALL BULLPOOPY! There's NO WAY you got those IP addresses! YOU are lying! You are lying because you want to win. Because you are a bitch.
I hate people like this.
Yeah, ~~Silk, GOMI gets vicious. This whole thing with Beverly was just so over-the-top - The false identities! The fake car crash! - I couldn't resist. It reminded me so much of Dustin Hoffman's speech in Tootsie - "For I am NOT Emily Kimberly, the daughter of Dwayne and Alma Kimberly! No, I'm not! I'm Edward Kimberly, the recluse brother of my sister Anthea! Edward Kimberly, who has finally vindicated his sister's good name! I am Edward Kimberly! Edward Kimberly!" - that I couldn't stop laughing. All ol' Bev had to do was step away from the keyboard, but no, she just kept on digging that hole deeper, which makes me think she might be less nuts and more plain ol' narcissistic.
What can I say? - I am, after all, someone who yells at little kids.

Suddenly I feel a little "higher-class" than usual....
And you left out my favorite part of the Tootsie speech...where he says,"..and, and, and..." while mentally searching for the next part.

I am now up to page 57 (of 106) and I am beginning to form a theory (Piper calls me the queen of conspiracy theory). Yes, Bev did do bad things on her blog, and stupid things in trying to promote it, so I'm not defending her.
But --- what if P*rtyP*nts (aka pp in posts) is lying in claiming that she KNOWS all the sockpuppets are Bev because "they all have the same IP addresses"? (I may be wrong about some of the following, since I make no claims to being an IP or forums expert.) PP is not the site administrator. She's just the forum admin. First, most forums I'm familiar with offer their members some modicum of privacy. IP addresses can pinpoint the location of the origination within a few miles, so it's unlikely the forum admin has access to them. As corroborating info, I offer that I know someone who trolls political/prepper forums using several ids, and argues with himself, and is rarely caught. Second, even if she does have access, it's not like the IP address is right there on the post. She'd have to search for the correct post by time stamp, and she "Ahah!"s pretty darn quickly for the amount of digging she'd have to do. Third, I'm not positive, but I believe that the IP address you get with emails is not that of the individual, but that of the email service (like Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, etc.) So I'm suspicious of PP's claims of the identical IP address on the emails she's received.
Try this on for size: The sockpuppets were created not by Bev, but by P*rtyP*ants herself, just to stir things up for her own amusement, at Bev's expense.
Update, correction: Hmmmmm. It looks like PP is the site admin, too. There are literally hundreds of GOMI forums, with cumulatively hundreds of posts per day. How can one person do it? She (he?) apparently makes money on the site (how? And if so, why aren't copyrighted materials and photos of private persons banned?). Weirder and weirder.

But I still think this bunch is a witches' coven. They aren't interested in helping people to see the error of their ways. I am not amused that they pretend concern for the child, but then point out that they hope this mess makes Bev unemployable, "and then how will you support your son, bitch?" Yeah. Real concern there....
I promise I won't rant here any more.

Ginny, if I had included all the "ands", that comment would have been book-length. That said, one of the funniest parts of that scene was the reactions of the other actors as Dustin/Tootsie/Emily/Edward stuttered and stammered, trying to think on the spot. God, that was a funny movie. Except I really hated Jessica Lange's character. Spineless!
~~Silk, as you've found, PP pretty much *is* GOMI. That said, it would be quite the plot twist if it were her making up Bev's alter egos ...
Yes, it can be a real snake pit. The commenters' defense is that bloggers put themselves in front of the public, demanding attention, and then get all butt-hurt if someone takes them to task for their ridiculousness. I agree that once you have a public blog, you're inviting criticism (remember my Dooce post?), but then again, if someone is obviously mentally ill, I think that takes you out of the "fair game" category. I guess that whether "Bev" is mental or not remains to be seen. And all of this could have been avoided if she didn't hop on GOMI, hoping for free publicity, in the first place.
p.s. ~~Silk, if you want to get really pissed off, go see smugnom. An entire site devoted to ripping apart one woman's blog.
