The summer semester of Foster Camp is now in session!
Meet Rosalita:
Rosa was a little skittish at first, but with some food and attention, she's started to come around:
I can't even imagine how hard it must be on these poor rescue cats; first they're dumped on the streets to fend for themselves, and then (if they're lucky), they're taken to a shelter where it's noisy and unfamiliar, and THEN they're transported to a foster home, where everything is new AGAIN.
But Rosa is a sweet girl. Rumor is she's with child, er, kittens, but as with human mamas, I've learned it's wisest not to make any comment until you know for SURE, i.e., until the baby comes out, so we'll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, make yourself at home, Rosalita!

Update!
The daughter of the family who adopted Mama Lightning, Little Bit and Tippy has been kind enough to be posting updates on facebook. They're settling in well! Take a look:
Even kittens who have been weaned will still nurse for comfort on occasion. And it goes both ways; I'm told that while Mama will sometimes growl at them when they try to nurse, she will also sometimes go lie down next to them, allowing easy access.
They look pretty comfy to me.

And they're off!
Dora the Explorer, Sophie Tucker, and Calvin left Foster Camp yesterday and went to the adoption center to start on their next great adventure!
Bye, guys! Have fun! Don't forget to write!

Seen on Craigslist
Ugly couch needs a new home
Then I have just what you need!
It's about 7 feet long. Brown colored fabric.
From a clean and non smoking home.
It's ugly and could use an insert under the cushion to make it a little firmer, but it has a lot of life left in it.
Would be great for a basement or for people who hate house guests.
I don't care if you take it and set it on fire ( but if you do, please send me the video) ,or you can turn it into a giant anthropomorphic puppet .
Give it love or kill it with fire, it's your choice!
Don't miss out! Everyone needs an ugly couch in their lives!
Come pick it up!

The weekend
On Saturday, Mama cat, Little Bit AND Tippy all went to their new home - together! Yep, mama and two of her kittens are going to be growing up together. How sweet!
I thought I was going to be taking the other fosters to the rescue to go up for adoption, but plans changed (as they always, ALWAYS do in rescue), so Dora, Sophie and Calvin will be staying with me for a few more days. Yay! It's hard when the foster room empties out all at once.
Saturday afternoon I went looking for ladyslippers. I didn't find any, but I DID find lots of other stuff. (Oh, and one of these photos has a mouse in it! Can you find it?)
Looks like the April showers really did their job this year.

A mystery
Other than that of where I've been, I mean.
I'm sorry, guys. I'm just so damn BUSY right now! I think the fosters may be moving on this weekend, and hopefully I'll have more time after that. Unless, of course, another litter lands on my doorstep right away, which is always a possibility this time of year.
I went to a local nature preserve last weekend. Or maybe the weekend before that? I DON'T KNOW. *sigh* ANYway, I didn't stay long, because there were a lot of other people there as well (how DARE they?!) (ha), but I did manage to find some less-populated areas of the preserve, where the forget-me-nots were growing:
Along with the skunk cabbage:
Hmmm ... What's this?
Anybody want to hazard a guess?

Kittens! (Plus one non-kitten pic, I PROMISE)
Here at Foster Camp, evidently Litterboxing is a team sport:
The Kitten Gang. "When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way ... ":
Mama Lightning says, "SEE what I have to put up with?! SEE?!":
"Dis MAI food! You can't have it! Go 'way!":
"Oh, hai, Mom! Did you order dese men's hikers?!":
And finally, one lone non-kitten pic:
Rose-breasted grossbeak!

There's a first time for everything ...
On Saturday, Mama Lightning decided that she would nurse the kittens on my lap.
Ummm ... okay? I've fostered a lot of litters over the years, and I have to say that this is the first time a mama cat has ever decided to nurse ON TOP OF ME. Sheesh.
In other news, Sunday I took everybody on a road trip to visit an acquaintance of mine's parents, who are interested in adopting. The husband is bedridden, so I took the cats to him! They are interesting in adopting Mama Lightning and Little Bit, so, yay! They still have to formalize things with the rescue, so we'll just wait and see.
And in OTHER others news, there ain't much. Saturday I mowed the lawn and cleared out the side garden and blah blah blah, the boss is back in town so we'll see what happens THERE, and life goes on apace.
Anything exciting happening on your end?
