Okay, well, first off, I'm kind of worried about the China Syndrome they've got going in Japan right now, but I was just leafing through a Cat Fancy magazine (don't JUDGE; besides, I get them from the library; it's not like I SUBSCRIBE or something) and there was an ad in the back for pet caskets.
Pet. Caskets.
Granted, I had Rocky cremated, and yes, I bought a pretty little box for the ashes because I keep them in the living room*, but pet caskets?
I mean, they're just going in the ground, people.
Back when I was a kid, we just used shoeboxes. Or, you know, blankets, depending on the size of the pet. We had a regular little pet cemetery going on outside the back door.
If you wanna check it out (the web site, not the pet cemetery), it's petcaskets.com.
Anything for Fluffy, I guess.
*hahahaha you KNEW I was CRAZY, right?

Holy shit my heart just broke ......
I just read this postcard on the postsecret site:

I'm SO GLAD I stayed in the room with Rocky. I couldn't have imagined being anywhere else right then.

Rocky
When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The waking up is the hardest part
You roll outta bed and down on your knees
And for a moment you can hardly breathe
Wondering was he really here?
Is he standing in my room?
No he's not, cause he's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The giving up is the hardest part
He takes you in with your crying eyes
Then all at once you have to say goodbye
Wondering could you stay my love?
Will you wake up by my side?
No he can't, cause he's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
Now do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand?
Baby, won't you get them if I did?
No you won't, cause you're gone, gone, gone, gone, gone ........
When you're dreaming with a broken heart
The waking up is the hardest part

Rocky, it's been a year since you passed away. I'm still not ready to write the post I want to write about this; a year just isn't enough time to wrap my head around your loss. Every so often I find myself calling The Runt by your name, and I just want to cry, because no other cat will ever be the cat that you were.
I was so lucky to have had you in my life for those fifteen years; you were my best friend, and I guess you always will be.
I was thinking of your theme song the other day, remember it? I'd pick you up and dance you around and sing it to the tune of the old Spiderman cartoon song:
Rocketman, Rocketman
Does whatever a rocket can
Flies through the air
With his paws
Catches mice
With his jaws
Look out, here comes the Rocketman!
Look out, here comes the Rocketman!
Look out, here comes the Rocketmaaaaaaaan!
Yeah, I'll bet you thought it was pretty silly, but it still makes me smile when I think about it. And it makes me smile to think of you.
I love you, baby.
