But, how do you stand in a checkout line without making eye contact with those who see you buying this stuff? My kids used to make me buy them "Weekly World News" when they were home from college, and I resorted to just memorizing the headlines while in line at the register. I am spineless.....Ginny
I pick most of this stuff up at thrift stores, where I figure we're all in the same weird boat.
But ha! The first thing I do when I'm on vacation? Buy the National Enquirer, the Globe, and whatever other fictional mags I can find. (Unfortunately, Weekly World News no longer publishes. I miss Bat Boy.) And I discuss the headlines with the cashier. "Lindsay Lohen is pregnant with a space alien's baby? Wow!" Summer reading at its finest.
Yes, I knew WWW had stopped publishing...perhaps a problem with no actual PHOTOGRAPHS to accompany the reporting. And just when Bat Boy was suiting up to fight the war in Iraq (truth! We read it). My husband, a retired career infantryman, was going to be so proud....from Ginny F., a person who is REALLY hoping no one she knows sees this.
I always wondered what a Jesus nightlight looked like when I listened to Eve 6:
yeah yeah yeah, your eyes shine bright, like a jesus nightlight I'd like to touch your positive vibes different eyes won't give me the time may I help put aside your moral fiber

ReplyDeleteand Laura, Eve 6! Tie me to the bedpost.
and I have to admit, every time I look at that nightlight, I think of that TLC show, "The Man With Half a Body". I watch waaaaay too much TV.
